With ANGEL's Institutional Directory functionality, an institution can use one instance of ANGEL for multiple schools or campuses and manage them from a central location. Additional domains / directory entries can be added as the organization grows and adapts. Tools provide support for distributing system administration work; segmenting and organizing courses, groups, users, and learning object repositories; creating meaningful units for reporting purposes; and managing large numbers of students. The partitioning tools also address privacy concerns by not allowing students from different organizational units to see students in other units.
Role-Based System Administration
ANGEL’s role-based system administration allows an adminstrator to create or modify an unlimited number of roles using any set of system level rights. This provides an institution ultimate flexibility in how they define system roles or distribute management of their ANGEL LMS. With this flexibility, system administrators can delegate authority for various tools and organizational units, allowing the process of system administration to scale and grow with the organization. It also provide increased security by allowing different levels of access for different types of users.
Course Import and Export
The opennness inherent in the ANGEL LMS makes it easy to import data from other products and LMS systems. In addition, the ANGEL LMS makes it possible to easily export data as well.
Text and Database Imports
ANGEL Text Import Wizard and ODBC Import Wizard can import data from a text-delimited file or from an ODBC database on another system into any ANGEL table. ANGEL’s import flexibility allows data in nearly any format to be easily synchronized with ANGEL. Use the import wizards to import calendar information, process drop/add files, update personnel files and integrate third-party systems.
Common Cartridge Support
![]() |
ANGEL supports both imports from and exports to the IMS Global Learning Consortium’s Common Cartridge format. This provides an institition with the ability to freely move content to and from any learning management system that supports the format. ANGEL was the first commercial LMS to support this important content standard.
IMS Imports
ANGEL import tools ease the transition to ANGEL from other systems. Batch import tools create course shells and populate the shells with content from other systems’ cartridges. The ability to convert all courses from other Learning Management Systems in a single task removes the course transition burden from instructors and designers.
Course Management Capabilities
The ANGLE LMS provides adminstrators with control over a variety of course management tasks, assuring course data is accurate and protected.
Batch Operations
With the ANGEL LMS, administrators can create accounts and enroll users in courses automatically using data from virtually any delimited file. The Batch Enrollment Wizard guides you through the data import process, identifying users who do not have accounts and creating accounts for them. Users who have accounts are enrolled with their existing user IDs. You can automatically send a custom email, complete with username, password and ID to users with new accounts and send enrollment notification to users who already have accounts.
ANGEL provides for a variety of additional batch operations to help you more effectively manage accounts, courses, content repositories, and groups. The system provides for batch account, course and section deletes; section backups; and imports from other LMS systems.
Course Migration Control
Course migration tasks at the beginning of a term can be long running tasks that impact system performance. These course migration tasks can be controlled through the ANGEL LMS Agents Service, allowing administrators to control when and where these process occur. By queing migration agents to multiple servers and off-peak hours, administrators can minimize their impact on the ANGEL production system.
Automatic Course Backups
The ANGEL LMS allows administrators to protect their institution's content investment by creating course backups automatically on a scheduled basis. Scheduling backups during non-peak hours also reduces their impact on the system. Scheduling backups by organizational unit allows courses that change more rapidly (e.g., pure online courses) to be backed up more frequently. Flexible backup scheduling allows back up of an entire institution over a period of days or weeks, rather than trying to complete a full backup at one time.
Archive and Restore Courses
ANGEL archive and restore tools keep your database free of clutter. They allow you to archive courses and retrieve individual courses without having to restore the entire database of all courses. When an instructor needs information from a deleted course, you can easily retrieve that particular course.
Data Access and Reporting
The ANGEL LMS also provides adminstrators with easy access to course data. With ANGEL's open database schema, administrators can easily run SQL queries and create and manage reports
SQL Query Manager
ANGEL enables you to quickly and easily get information from your database either ad hoc or on your schedule. What is the most active course? Who are the most active users? Type in an ad hoc query against your database to retrieve this or any other type of information. Queries can be saved and can include parameters. A saved query can be run at any time by simply selecting it from a list.
Create Reports
ANGEL extends the reports and utilities provided for lesson resources such as assessments and surveys. It allows seamless integration of your custom reports and utilities with preconfigured reports. Custom reports and utilities are on the same pages as the standard items so customizations do not compromise environment usability. ANGEL’s open database structure also allows you to connect third party reporting tools, such as Business Objects, Microsoft Reporting Services or Crystal Reports to the ANGEL database to run deeper analytical reports.
XEI Agents
ANGEL XEI (Extended Enterprise Integration) automates the interchange of data between ANGEL and other enterprise systems in your environment. ANGEL’s Administrator Console allows you to create or modify the agents that control the data interchange through the XEI Agents Manager.
