California State University Long Beach Adopts the ANGEL LMS
For Immediate Release - March 10, 2009
Indianapolis, Ind. – March 10, 2009 – ANGEL® Learning, a leading provider of enterprise eLearning software and services, today announced that California State University Long Beach (CSULB) is adopting the ANGEL Learning Management Suite (LMS) to power its eLearning environment, BeachBoard. CSULB is the first campus in the California State University, the largest system of senior higher education in the country, to license the ANGEL LMS under the CSU Master Enabling Agreement (MEA) with ANGEL Learning. The MEA verifies that the ANGEL LMS meets or exceeds all the CSU’s learning management system requirements and leverages the purchasing power of the CSU system.
“The decision to adopt the ANGEL Learning Management Suite is the result of an extensive vetting process that included the creation of an Ad Hoc LMS Steering Committee and an LMS Evaluation Task Force made up of interested students, faculty, staff, and administrators,” said Karen L. Gould, provost, California State University Long Beach.
The LMS Evaluation Task Force evaluated two learning management systems based on 114 criteria. Reasons the task force identified for selecting the ANGEL LMS include:
- Intuitive and flexible teaching and learning tools
- Commitment to openness for customization
- Compliance with Accessible Technology Initiative (ATI) requirements identified by the CSU Chancellor’s Office
- Ability to integrate with the CSULB Student Information System, Peoplesoft
- Award-winning technical support
“Cal State Long Beach and ANGEL Learning share a commitment to providing high quality, accessible education,” said Christopher Clapp, ANGEL Learning president and CEO. “ANGEL Learning is very pleased the university found in ANGEL the features, openness, and commitment to customer support it requires. We look forward to partnering with them and other CSU campuses who choose to take advantage of the CSU – ANGEL Learning Master Enabling Agreement.”
According to a press release issued by CSULB, “ANGEL will allow faculty to continue to focus on teaching and learning with additional tools such as wikis and blogs and an eportfolio tool. Faculty will also have more options when using the gradebook feature, including customizing their view of and efficient input into the gradebook. ANGEL will also make BeachBoard more interactive for students, incorporating the Google search engine and podcasting options. Students and faculty will be instantly notified of new announcements, discussion posts, and emails and will be able to view BeachBoard on their PDAs or iPhones.”
The CSULB Office of Academic Technology will work with students, faculty, and staff to ensure a smooth and seamless migration to the ANGEL LMS. Academic technology staff will begin phasing in ANGEL this summer and expect ANGEL to be fully in place January 2010.
