ANGEL Learning Unveils the ANGEL LMS 7.4

For Immediate Release - Feb. 12, 2009

Indianapolis, Ind. – February 12, 2009 – ANGEL® Learning, a leading provider of enterprise eLearning software and services, today unveiled the ANGEL Learning Management Suite (LMS) version 7.4, the most inclusive suite of enterprise learning management tools available. Developed in ANGEL Learning’s signature collaborative style, version 7.4 extends the simplicity, power, and openness of the ANGEL LMS to empower users to accomplish evolving teaching, learning, and administrative objectives across the learning enterprise.

“Our focus in the ANGEL LMS 7.4 release is improved workflow throughout. Faculty and instructional designers can now easily create content mashups with YouTube and other Google™ media. Creating and evaluating assessments is now improved with the addition of Rubrics, Lesson Plans, and an enhanced Gradebook. Administrators will enjoy improved term transitions and introduce automated course backups,” said Ray Henderson, chief products officer, ANGEL Learning. “But beyond feature design, we’re pleased with the innovation we’ve brought to the release process for ANGEL 7.4. We invested heavily to ensure the release would undergo our most rigorous quality testing prior to its public release. An extensive field trial is underway and the early feedback from our participants is very positive.”

Teaching and Learning Enhancement Highlights

A new ANGEL LMS 7.4 mashup makes it easier to incorporate rich media content from sources such as YouTube and Picasa™ into courses. The new release also makes it possible to incorporate RSS feeds into courses. These enhancements complement Web 2.0 blog and wiki capabilities already included in the ANGEL LMS, enabling instructors and instructional designers to provide even more engaging course content and meet students’ expectations for a more interactive learning experience.

Building on ANGEL’s market-leading assessment capabilities, the ANGEL LMS 7.4 provides grading rubrics to ensure all manually graded submissions are evaluated against the same criteria. A new Gradebook interface supports any grading period and provides improved workflow and reporting. Enhancements to reports generated by ANGEL’s exclusive Item Analysis provide even more robust analysis of assessment success. Course surveys have also been enhanced to make them a more effective pre- and post-course assessment tool.

Templates included in the ANGEL LMS 7.4’s new Lesson Plan Builder offer the option of creating lesson plans using widely acknowledged formats as well as the ability to define institution-specific templates, promoting consistent lesson plan design across an enterprise. This unique capability is especially important to the K12 market.

More Flexible System Administration

Management of the ANGEL LMS across a complex learning enterprise is further enhanced in the ANGEL LMS 7.4:

  • Multiple schools or campuses can be managed from a central location through a new institutional directory.
  • An institution now has complete control over the roles it creates to manage the ANGEL LMS and the rights it assigns each role.
  • The ability to automate course migrations during non-peak hours reduces system impact.
  • Scheduling automatic back up of courses that change rapidly reduces the potential for disruption.

Powerful Content Management

ANGEL Learning has long recognized institutions’ investment in learning content with the inclusion of Learning Object Repositories (LOR) in the ANGEL LMS. LOR enhancements in the ANGEL LMS 7.4 make content sharing even easier and more efficient, helping institutions gain additional value from their investment in learning content.

ANGEL further acknowledges the significance of institutions’ investments in content by offering the first (and only) LMS to enable export to the IMS Common Cartridge format. The ability to export content from the ANGEL LMS 7.4 provides instructors and institutions greater ability to move content from one system to another.

Collaborative Development

A hallmark of the ANGEL Learning development model is strong collaboration with the ANGEL user community. The new capabilities in the ANGEL LMS 7.4 were designed in cooperation with ANGEL users through specification reviews, focus groups, and usability studies.

In addition, the ANGEL LMS 7.4 has undergone the most stringent pre-release testing of any ANGEL LMS version to date. Dozens of courses and more than a 1,000 students are currently using the ANGEL LMS 7.4 as part of a Limited Field Trial. A broader Open Field Trial (OFT) that provides ANGEL administrators a full working copy of the ANGEL LMS 7.4 OFT opens today.

ANGEL LMS 7.4 is scheduled to be released this spring. For more information, contact ANGEL Learning Sales at sales@angellearning.com.
